TRICKING OUT YOUR STOCK RIMS!
Okay Okay Okay... I know I have had this up as
under construction for a while now, and people have been asking about
it, but I've been really busy as I just recovered from two broken
legs that happened over the summer, and since I started riding in
january I've been traveling with the clear channel monster truck tour
doing fmx exhibitions. This section will be a little less formal than
the other sections... so let me start.
Basically, I wanted a cheap way to make my
rims look trick on the fmxschool.com videos, "REPRESENT"
and at freestyle demos/contests. I realized that $300-$400 wheel sets
weren't necessary. People often ask me
how I got my red rims on my Kawasaki (excel doesnt offer them for
kawis in that color) . I went to autozone and found this spray paint
that is actually translucent. Since it allows some of the metal to
show through (your shiny silver stock rims, they have an anodized
look. This special paint goes by the brand name METALCAST and there
is also another brand (which I actually prefer over Metalcast )
called "Anodized Look" paint. After applying two to three
coats (it only takes a few minutes to air dry) let the rims sit for a
day or so to fully dry. You may need to re apply every couple months
or so.
To give my rims an extra trick look at freestyle
shows, I use those blinking-light valve stem caps that you get at
automotive accessories stores. Screw them onto your valve stems and
you have blinking rims. Only thing is.. they only look good in low
light. I'll try to get some pics up soon of the rim painting to help
everyone out if they try to do this. If you have any q's email me at fatairsteve@yahoo.com
